Whither America?

Greetings Blog followers.  It’s been awhile since I have posted on his blog,  Below is a guest post by by colleague Bill Corbett.  I believe this is also on his Facebook page.

THE PREAMBLE TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION:

We the People of the United States in order to form a more perfect union, establish Justice, insure domestic tranquility, PROVIDE for the common defense, PROMOTE the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty in ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

There are two key words in that preamble that I think worthy of examination; two words that methinks liberals and the Progressive socialists in this country tend to deliberately ignore or distort.

Those words are PROVIDE and PROMOTE. I’d like to examine those two words according to dictionary definition.

PROVIDE: To furnish. To supply or equip.

PROMOTE:

  1. To further or encourage progress or existence;.
  2. to help, or encourage, to exist or flourish further.

In the context of the Preamble to the Constitution, as I see it, the word Provide addresses the matter of seeing that this country has an adequate defense mechanism in place to provide protection, and secure our liberty.

The phrase “Promote the general welfare” addresses a platform whereby people have an opportunity to grow and become the best that they can be if they are willing to work to that end. It has nothing to do with providing government welfare to the people.

The Progressive movement has been very adept in instilling this concept of PROVIDING welfare into the minds of a great many people in this country; the concept of thinking the government owes everyone a living; a concept whereby the masses are controlled by a few. The United States is dangerously close to that stage of control. Methinks we are dangerously close to total anarchy. The next step after anarchy is total control and suppression of the people by government, which eventually leads to revolution.

Methinks we are entering the final stage of Alexander Tytler’s “Circle of Bondage” theory which occurs full circle in orderly stages from bondage, to spirituality, to courage, to freedom, to prosperity, to selfishness, to apathy, to dependence, and finally, back to bondage.

Methinks the United States is currently in the dependency stage. Bondage such as that suffered by the colonists in the late 1700s is inevitable. I’m in the twilight of my years here on earth, so I don’t expect to live to see the actual advent back into bondage, and I think it will take a generation or two under bondage before the people develop the courage to fight once again to secure their liberty, unless God intervenes and establishes His new kingdom here on earth.
