The Little Red Hen—A Parody

hen-clip-art-700378HeadShot_burnedThere are lessons to be learned from the old fairy tales and fables. This classic is one that we Americans should heed, as it seems very apropos today.

One day as the little red hen was scratching in the field, she found a grain of wheat.

“This wheat should be planted,” she said.  “Who will plant this grain of Wheat?”

“Not I,” said the Duck.images0YAXHJU0

“Not I,” said the Cat.

“Not I” said the Dog

“Then I will,” said the little red hen, and she did.  Soon the wheat grew tall and yellow.

“The wheat is ripe,” said the little red hen.  “Who will cut the wheat?”

“Not I,” said the Duck.

“Not I,” said the Dog.

“Then, I will,” said the little red hen, and she did.

When the wheat was cut, the little red hen said, “Who will thresh the wheat?”

“Not I,” said the Duck.

“Not I,” said the Cat.

“Not I,” said the Dog.images

“Then I will,” said the little red hen, and she did.

When the wheat was all threshed, the little red hen said, “Who will take this wheat to the mill?”

“Not I,” said the Duck.

“Not I,” said the Cat.

“Not I,” said the Dog.

She took the wheat to the mill and had it ground into flour. Then she said,

“Who will make this flour into bread?”

“Not I,” said the Duck.

“Not I,” said the Cat.

“Not I,” said the Dog.

“Then I will,” said the little red hen, and she did.

She made and baked the bread. Then she said, “Who will eat this bread?”stock-photo-13540658-loaf-of-bread

“Oh, I will,” said the Duck.

“And I will,” said the Cat.

“And I will,’ said the Dog.

“No, no,” said the little red hen.  “I will do that.”

What you just read is according to the story I learned as a young boy in grade school. I’m going to add a modern version to the ending as it applies in the world today. Ambition and industriousness are no longer rewarded.  Instead, they are looked upon as selfish and greedy. The story continues with the modern ending.

“Oh, no, that’s not fair,” said the Duck.

“Oh, no, that’s not fair,” said the Cat.

images“Oh, no, that’s not fair,” said the Dog. “You’ve got too much, and we  have no bread to eat. We’ll report this to Rooster, the barnyard governor, and let him settle this.  And they did.

Governor Rooster came and looked at all the bread the little red hen had baked. It was four loaves. He was a “liberal compassionate” governor.  He chastised the little red hen.

“You have four loaves of bread,” said the Barnyard Governor. “That’s way more14325316-darstellung than you need.  Shame  on you for being so greedy. You’ll have to share them with your less fortunate barnyard colleagues.”

The Governor took two of the four loaves. “I’ll take these,” he said, “for administrative expenses.” Of the two remaining loaves, he gave a half loaf to the little red hen, and the other loaf and a half he gave to her three barnyard colleagues.

hen-clip-art-700378The little red hen never again raised any wheat, ground any flour, or baked any bread.  She continued to scratch the fields for her food as she had always done, but whenever she found a grain of wheat, she ate it on the spot.

Then a great famine crossed the land.  The rooster flew the coop, the farmer ate the duck, then he ate the little red hen; the dog ate the cat;  a wolf ate the dog; the king shot the farmer, and the king died of starvation.

The moral of this story: Government induced share the wealth(socialism/communism) never works.  The producers soon quit producing, and the whole system soon falls apart.
